Environmental burden shifting

The Nordic Swan Ecolabelling takes a holistic approach, which means that action is taken where it will have the most impact on the environment.

This is why the whole life cycle – from raw materials to production, use, disposal and recycling – is included in the assessment when the requirements are established. In this way, we reduce the overall environmental impact.

Nordic Ecolabelling strives to make sure that measures taken at one stage of a product's life cycle does not create new environmental problems at other stages. 

We also make sure to integrate different environmental issues in all our criteria development so as to avoid one having a negative impact on another.
